Injection therapy includes a wide range of applications. Explore what we do here at Eastern Bench:
Regenerative injection therapies are a type of therapy involving the injection of numbing, nutritive, and anti-inflammatory agents into the injured or painful site to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. This strengthens the structures to improve function and reduce pain. The types of regenerative injections we offer are prolotherapy and PRP. We will advise you on which one would benefit you the most based on your unique needs.
Most patients tolerate the procedure well with just local anesthesia (procaine). The hypodermic needles we use are thinner than regular hypodermic needles so they do not cause the ache associated with a vaccine. Some discomfort may occur with certain types of injections but usually only lasts a day or two and you can feel at ease with the discomfort knowing that this means the healing process is occurring.
To maximize the benefit of therapy it is recommended to avoid activity for 2-3 days during the initial healing phase and a gradual return to pre-injection activity level and more depending on your individual progress. Some strenuous activities will need to be stopped or modified for up to two weeks after injections to give the repaired tissue a chance to mature.
They are safe when administered by a properly trained and licensed injection therapist. Our doctor (DACM) has hundreds of hours of training in regenerative and holistic injection techniques and takes every precaution. We will advise you as to your pre and post-operation care.
The rate of success depends on multiple factors, including patients' underlying medical conditions, ability to heal, age, nutritional status, and personal care following treatment. That is why we have a pre-injection phase of care to optimize your body’s ability to respond to the injection, which acts as the catalyst for healing. We have seen multiple patients be able to avoid surgery, resolve chronic pain and restore function. These therapies do involve active participation in the healing process and are not a magic bullet quick fix.
Steroids, such as cortisone, provide temporary pain relief but inhibit the body’s natural healing mechanism. In the long run, steroids cause tissue degeneration, joint, and ligament laxity, and multiple other adverse effects. Regenerative and holistic injection therapies do just the opposite - they stimulate healing and tissue repair, promote stability, thereby decreasing pain, and have minimal side effects.
This is no universal answer to this question. Much of this depends on the chronicity and location of your problem, if you have any underlying medical conditions, and your age and nutritional status. If you are receiving prolotherapy, most patients require one injection per month for three consecutive months.
