First and foremost, we at Eastern Bench Holistic Healthcare would like to see you be able to conceive without the need for ART (assisted reproduction techniques) such as IVF or IUI. If you should need to use ART, we can help you prepare your body so that your chances of a successful pregnancy are significantly increased. Good clinical research has demonstrated the effectiveness of acupuncture used in conjunction with IVF, demonstrating a 50% increase in success rate with acupuncture compared to without.
For best results, Chinese medicine, including acupuncture, Chinese herbs, dietary, and lifestyle therapy should be used before, during, and after IVF/IUI. Chinese medicine can help prepare both partners before IVF. It helps to improve the function of the ovaries, strengthen and regulate immune function, reduce stress, and improve the quality and quantity of sperm.
Undergoing ART without preparing your body is like planting a seed without cultivating the soil. Furthermore, acupuncture performed on the day of embryo transfer has been shown to increase the implantation rate and live birth rates in patients undergoing IVF.
A woman’s body begins to recruit eggs about 120 days before ovulation and the development of sperm takes between 72-90 days, so to optimize your chances of a healthy pregnancy and delivering a healthy baby you should prepare your body for a minimum of 3-6 months before undergoing an ART cycle. This is the window of opportunity for you and your partner to nourish your body to improve egg and sperm quality.
Studies have shown that women and men receiving acupuncture along with Chinese herbs, appropriate nutrients, adequate exercise, and stress reduction techniques improve their chances of developing healthier eggs and sperm.
How does Chinese medicine improve IVF success rates?
Here at Eastern Bench, we do pre and post IVF transfer acupuncture treatments as well as have a program to prepare your body before IVF or IUI. If you should find us right before your next IVF cycle, we can still help you with managing stress, improving cycle outcomes, reducing signs and symptoms of ovarian hyperstimulation, as well as preventing OHSS.

When working with women utilizing IUI, or intrauterine insemination, we focus on regulating and optimizing the four phases of the menstrual cycle. Depending on your protocol and the timing of our work together, we may use acupuncture alone or acupuncture in combination with herbs and targeted supplements.
We ideally would want to begin working with you three months before your active IVF cycle but we can also have a positive impact on outcomes no matter where you are in the process. Our emphasis when working with people using IVF is to balance hormones, improve blood flow to the uterus, address any underlying deficiencies, optimize nutrition, and keep your nervous system calm and steady.
When using donor eggs, we focus on balancing your hormones, improving circulation and preparing the uterus for implantation, supporting and balancing your constitution, and generally keeping your nervous system steady and calm.
Similar to IVF, we work with you three months before the active cycle with weekly acupuncture. Since there will not be a transfer after the egg freezing, you may choose to discontinue treatment or you may opt to continue treatment if you are planning to do more than one egg freezing cycle, or if you want to continue working on general wellness or other health issues.
